Cybercriminals have been evolving their business models for years because, for them, it is a business.

The emergence of so-called Initial Access Brokers in the cybercriminal world is not surprising, and they are not even a new thing. Cybercriminals have been evolving their business models for years because, for them, it is a business. Having operations that specialize in one particular aspect of the criminal enterprise is no different than legitimate companies that service different links in the supply chain.

Until the international law enforcement community is able to put a dent in these cybercriminal organizations, organizations will have to do their best to keep them out and minimize the damage when they do get in. Having a well-educated user community, a properly trained and equipped security operations team, and a mature and complete security stack, are vital against criminal organizations that operate less like a crime gang and more like mature businesses.
