“Making the move to Gurucul boiled down to the three T’s: Team, Technology, and Timing.”

Jasen Meece, President Business Development

The Backstory

Gurucul is pleased to announce that Jasen Meece, former Managing Partner for IBM’s Global Security Group, has joined the company as President. He will oversee sales, business development, channel and partnership programs, and their respective go-to-market strategies.

Why Jasen Meece left IBM for Gurucul

In his own words:

“It’s my privilege to now be part of the Gurucul family, working for Saryu Nayyar as President. Having met with clients across many verticals and geographies over the last few years, a common theme has emerged – reducing risk while still expanding one’s digital presence. Unfortunately, this is often seen as mutually exclusive, but it doesn’t need to be. Therein lies the essence of my decision on pursuing a career at Gurucul: to help clients with behavior based cyber security.

When making key decisions, one can turn to a host of frameworks and methodologies. Once I knew the area of focus I wanted to chase, making the move to Gurucul boiled down to the three T’s: Team, Technology, and Timing.

The Gurucul Team is one of the best in the business, and obsessed with customer success. In fact, three of our customers have won prestigious CSO50 Awards from IDG in the last two years: Aetna and Infosys in 2018  and Sallie Mae in 2017 .

When the best team is coupled with the leading Technology, amazing things begin to happen like this project at this year’s Super Bowl involving Allina Healthcare.

So, building off this solid foundation, the time for Gurucul to help protect customers against the bad actors who continually exploit the unknown unknowns is now. We have a tremendous opportunity to transform the way enterprises secure and protect data. I know we can change the game to drive effectiveness, efficiencies, and maturity of security programs.

Please check my LinkedIn page regularly for upcoming posts that will unpack how Borderless Behavior Analytics can help your organization protect itself from threats that traditional security technologies can’t detect.”

Everything’s About Company

That’s what Chris Rock said in Jerry Seinfeld’s roving Netflix show, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee Episode C1:E10. Jerry asked Chris how he liked the car they were riding in, a 1969 Lamborghini Miura P400S. Chris replied, “I like you, Jerry. And I say everything’s about company.

We agree. We’re in good company with the addition of Jasen Meece. We look forward to amazing things to come!

Gurucul Fraud Analytics Recognized in Gartner’s Market Guide for Online Fraud Detection

Gurucul was the only UEBA vendor to be recognized by Gartner as a representative vendor in the Fraud Detection market, based on Gartner’s Market Guide for Online Fraud Detection.

According to Gartner, “Online fraud detection is growing in complexity and demand, and its tools are being used for risk-based authentication and new account fraud prevention. Security and risk management leaders involved in online fraud detection should use machine-learning analytics and cloud-based deployment options.”

Gurucul Fraud Analytics goes beyond traditional solutions that are based on rules, signatures and patterns. To detect fraud early in the “Cyber Fraud Kill Chain”, Gurucul ingests huge volumes of data generated by users / entities across multiple channels from on-premise and cloud applications to identify anomalous and potentially fraudulent behavior that spans time, place, access and actions.

The Gurucul Fraud Analytics risk engine continuously scores this activity against historical behavior as well as dynamically created peer groups and generates risk prioritized alerts for investigation or to automate risk remediation response actions. Gurucul risk scores can be used by applications to enforce security policies or make real-time business decisions to prevent fraud before it occurs, such as introducing step-up authentication challenges.

Advanced Analytics + Frictionless Security: What CISOs Need to Know

Article by Saryu Nayyar, CEO of Gurucul

Advances in analytics technologies promise to make identity management smarter and more transparent to users. But the process is neither straightforward nor easy.

The digital transformation of business processes is forcing CISOs to implement security processes that move at customer speed and reduce friction. This is placing greater strain on access management, because organizations need to protect themselves from account compromise and other digital threats while simultaneously providing a better user experience.

An approach known as adaptive access management can support run-time use cases that address CISOs’ security needs while reducing speed bumps for the CIO. Today, advances in analytics involving multiple vendors and technologies are providing the foundation to make this possible by enabling real-time automated decision-making that doesn’t require human intervention.
