JOB DESCRIPTION: TECHNICAL WRITER/EDITOR
Gurucul is seeking a creative, innovative team member for the role of technical writer / technical communications specialist, to be part of Gurucul’s software engineering team. The candidate will be a key individual contributor responsible for the design and development of technical documentation. The technical writer will work closely with the engineering, sales and implementation teams to produce online user manuals, software release notes, and related product documentation. In addition, the writer will collaborate with the marketing team to create other types of communication, such as Web content, white papers, and technical presentation materials.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in the Cyber Security domain writing technical documentation for internal and external audiences.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Determine the needs of end users of technical documentation
- Work closely and iterate quickly with product teams throughout the organization showing to create product documentation
- Organize and write supporting documents for products
- Build / Maintain End User and Engineering product manuals
- Build / Maintain End User and Technical Training Aids
- Write and Maintain Release Notes
- Determine the needs of end users of technical documentation
- Work with product team and technical staff to make products easier to use
- Organize and write supporting documents for products
- Standardize content across platforms and media
- Revise documents as new issues arise
- Maintain Document Version Controls
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Prior experience in software development domain, Cyber Security preferred.
- College degree in technical communication or professional writing preferred; education in a related field with experience in technical communication acceptable
- Experience (1–3 years) creating documentation and online help
- Demonstrated excellence in writing and editing clear, concise content
- Effective communication, organization, and time-management skills
- Ability to grasp complex technical concepts quickly and translate them into simple terms
- Strong knowledge of computer systems and processes; excellent typing ability
- Capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining close attention to details
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, online help authoring software, image editing, HTML, and desktop publishing.
LOCATION/TRAVEL
Position is based in Los Angeles, CA. This position requires periodic travel.
EDUCATION
- BS/ BA Computer Science, English, Math
- 3 – 8 years of experience
