Artificial intelligence and machine learning have made their way into many diverse industries, changing the way businesses handle everything from inventory to customer relations. These technologies have the potential to further optimize and revolutionize a number of business operations. However, some fields can derive exceptional benefits from AI.

As experienced tech leaders, the members of Forbes Technology Council make a point of staying on top of technological innovations and trends. Below, 14 of them share their predictions about which industries and sectors will ultimately benefit the most from AI and why.

1. Logistics

AI is going to disrupt most verticals—it is a question of how. Logistics is a target-rich opportunity for AI. There are thousands of “knowledge workers” in the logistics industry; these are people who know about routes, cargo, workarounds and so on. We already have autonomous vehicles on the road. In the future, we will have AI scheduling AI-powered vehicles. – David Moise, Decide Consulting

2. Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity is one of the industries that will have multiple AI use cases. The majority of cyberattacks have an AI-based angle, meaning cybersecurity has AI ingrained in its DNA. I expect businesses to adopt a proactive, continuous, real-time approach to risk management, using AI and ML with external threat intelligence and internal threat assessments to make cybersecurity more dynamic and objective. – Saket Modi, Lucideus

3. Healthcare

Most industries will soon have to rely on AI to survive, but the impact of AI on healthcare is going to be tremendous, particularly in two areas. First will be the ability to detect life-threatening diseases such as cancer earlier and more accurately than humans. The second will be the acceleration of drug discovery and clinical trials, which will reduce both the cost of healthcare and the time it takes to release new drugs. – Divyabh Mishra, CrowdANALYTIX

4. Enterprise Security

Identity access management has become the core of enterprise security, but identity processes are complex and involve a large amount of data. AI is already starting to simplify IAM by analyzing patterns and anomalies, spotting risky users, modeling access by user role and automating access requests. This helps enterprises secure access to their most critical assets. – Juliette Rizkallah, SailPoint

5. Research And Development

Industries that invest heavily in R&D, such as biotechnology and oil and gas exploration, will see some of the biggest gains from AI. These industries make huge investments in risky bets that may or not pay off. AI can help to shorten R&D cycles and reduce investigatory costs, allowing these industries to pursue bolder projects with less risk to the business. – Murli Thirumale, Portworx by Pure Storage

6. Financial Services

Banking and financial services institutions are prime examples of industries benefiting from the use of AI. It’s a war of many battles, with hackers using the same tech that’s used to combat fraud. Therefore, it is crucial for financial institutions to leverage AI to recognize patterns over large data sets to detect fraud before it negatively impacts their organization and customers. – Will LaSala, OneSpan

7. Information Security

Artificial intelligence in its various flavors can still provide more benefits in the healthcare industry and information security sectors. The ability to make connections between seemingly unrelated data is beneficial for both security and healthcare. The sciences have been using AI for years and will continue to see the benefits. – Saryu NayyarGurucul

8. Advertising

Advertising will benefit tremendously from AI. The efficiency of an ad depends a great deal on reaching the right person at the right time. Without AI, the best we could do was to create various segments. But AI can make it way more granular. It can customize ads for each individual based on thousands of parameters. AI can also detect the best times and channels to broadcast an advertisement. – Vikram Joshi, pulsd

9. E-Commerce

The e-commerce sector largely solved its operational challenges in 2020. As such, the industry will look for strategic investments into algorithmic commerce and ROI-driven personalization. We’ll start to see blended AI and natural language generation technology create a type of “algorithmic e-commerce” experience where customers get bespoke shopping experiences through customized product and category descriptions. – Robert Weissgraeber, AX Semantics

10. Cloud Computing

While I think there are vertical sectors that will benefit, I’m most excited about applying AI to how cloud computing systems operate overall. There is a tremendous potential for AI to revolutionize how we think about cloud computing, especially in the areas of data lake analytics. – Steven Mih, Ahana

11. Manufacturing

AI is already providing huge help to industrial and manufacturing organizations by optimizing their production and maintenance. AI can spot unusual signs and patterns that allow manufacturers to perform predictive maintenance weeks or months before failure occurs. This was possible before using humans, but it was limited by available resources. AI helps effortlessly scale this to thousands of machines. – Alexander Hill, Senseye

12. Public Transportation

AI will benefit the transportation of people and goods. Currently, self-driving car and truck prototypes are in progress, but drive-share companies already use technology to avoid traffic and arrive in a timely fashion. This can also extend to public transportation. AI in trains and buses can increase efficiency and reduce potential inconveniences. It would reduce stress for patrons and benefit everyone. – Arnie Gordon, Arlyn Scales

13. Media And Entertainment

In the media and entertainment industry, huge amounts of data can be gathered or inferred from video via AI. This can be as simple as metadata for tagging scenes (characters, actors and so on) and potentially as profound as predicting the success or failure of future TV and movie ventures. As we gather more data from streaming, expect AI’s impact to only increase. – Joaquin Lippincott, Metal Toad

14. Any Industry With Automatable Tasks

Without a doubt, AI will affect every single industry—it has already proven itself in your home and businesses. There is no single industry that will benefit from it; all will. The important thing is to ensure that your company is ready for AI. It means a big transformation and modernization of jobs. Industry leaders should always ask themselves, “What can I automate?” and use humans for the rest. – Mercedes Soria, Knightscope
